EXPLORING THE IC WORLD

In the Web2 world we live in, the development of science and technology has brought us great convenience in terms of social production and way of life.

However, many cultural industries and financial industries are relatively centralized. Much of the communication behaviour, business data, and market share is concentrated on closed platforms owned by a handful of tech giants.

The emergence of the Internet Computer has solved the dependence of Web3 on Web2 technology to a certain extent.

Dr. Dominic Williams, the founder of DFINITY, once expressed the hope that by transforming the Internet into more than just a network, the world can reshape the Internet ecosystem and restructure in a better way.

In addition to the network, IC is also a computing platform, and people can build any pan-industry platform through code writing.

Since its huge inclusiveness and forward-looking, the number of developers is also exploding within the Dfinity ecosystem.

This week, representatives of four different outstanding projects from the IC ecosystem participated in the second event of our DfinitySeries, and brought wonderful sharing and discussions.

DSCVR

The first to appear was Rick Porter, CEO & Co-Founder of DSCVR. He brought a talk on Decentralized Social.

In his sharing, we learned that DSCVR is a fully decentralized social content platform running on Internet Computer. DSCVR has amassed over 4,0000 users since its launch in June 2021.

Unlike the popular social platforms we use today, its vision is to be a decentralized social content platform owned and controlled by users.

DSCVR hopes to hand over the rights to users and let users decide the fate of the platform.

Users become part of driving community decisions, which is unbelievable for a Web2 social app under a giant monopoly, but DSCVR makes it happen.

At the same time, one of the reasons the DSCVR team chose Internet Computer to build on is that the IC gave them the network speed they needed to bridge the gap between users who are accustomed to a centralized product experience but use decentralized technologies.

Cosmicrafts

The second guest to share was Omar Hernandez Salmeron, founder of Cosmicrafts.

Cosmicrafts is a futuristic world built in a Crypto-NFT video game.

In this game, strategy and competition are key elements. Users can build their own spaceships using an array of connectable parts, then pilot the ship through space in intense combat, taking down opponents with a variety of weapons.

The team is also making several improvements to the multiplayer to prevent matchmaking with AFK players and detect players who are constantly disconnecting from the game.

These improvements will be implemented in the next few weeks along with better timing control.

The web developer of the team has also made some notable improvements to the main login site, integrating them into canister’s code.

At present, Cosmicrafts also sells NFTs, and the funds raised will be used for research and development to create NFT game assets. Players can assemble them into parts and upgrade their attributes to win the game.

IC Naming

This month, developers from Kilt, an identity protocol on Polkadot, participated in our Force Open Day event. And Danica, CMO of IC Naming, also participated in our DfinitySeries event.

IC Naming is a decentralized name service on Dfinity. It is open-source and transparent.

Also, IC Naming, as an important infrastructure, will be managed by the community in the future.

IC has decentralized storage and decentralized computing, but currently accessing dapps on IC still relies on centralized domain names such as ic0.app. Therefore, IC Naming solves the final problem of IC decentralization. IC naming is a necessary part of the complete decentralization of Internet Computer.

Danica also mentioned that IC Naming is compatible with DNS and ENS, which eliminates the attack risk of domain name pollution and domain name hijacking, and also allows users to have better services.

ICKoalas

The projects of the first three guests covered social, gaming and infrastructure. Then this sharing guest is from the NFT project within IC ecosystem, Head of Project Development of ICKoalas, Jwevans.

ICKoalas series comes from the time when koalas ruled the earth. The pandemics have wiped out the homo sapiens from the face of the earth, Koalas now dominate the planet. They are researching heavily into what humans have left behind and are developing their society at a tremendous pace.

ICKoalas is a collection of 5555 koala image NFTs on IC.

Like other NFT projects, ICKoalas also has variations and differences in combustion mechanics and rarity.

In the future, ICKoalas will also collaborate with other Dfinity projects to explore integration in the metaverse and games.

After the wonderful sharing of the four guests, there was also a panel discussion session. The guests shared their views on Web3 and why they chose Dfinity for application construction.

Dfinity provides smart contracts that are more convenient for developers, as well as built-in decentralized storage, low gas and full-stack development. At the same time, this also makes IC-based products more accessible to use and friendly to developers in traditional industries.

As the founder of Dfinity, Dr. Dominic Williams said, we hope that IC will transform the Internet into something more than just a network, allowing the world to reshape the Internet ecosystem in a better way.

The co-construction of the IC ecosystem requires the participation of more builders, and Force Community will also continue to work on ecosystem development and knowledge dissemination within the whole IC.

Welcome more participants and contributors to explore the IC world with us!
